Climate-Neutral Flying – The Energy Transition Report
Climate-neutral flying – a vision that is set to become reality at Memmingen Airport. By 2030 at the latest, the airport infrastructure on the ground is to be operated in a climate-neutral manner. A highly efficient biogas cogeneration plant operated in the immediate vicinity of the airport is at the heart of the concept. Memmingen Airport is also working on an innovative infrastructure that will make it possible to produce climate-neutral e-kerosene directly on site. The Memmingen engineers are using the latest research results from scientists at the renowned Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT.

The film describes in great detail how the installation of so-called residential heat pumps offers the tenants space heating and warm water for relatively low costs. The heat pumps are efficient, plus they run on green electricity: one kilowatt-hour of electricity is converted into 4.5 kilowatt-hours of heat.

Heat pumps make it possible to heat houses without using oil and gas. The Energy Transition Report shows how an old oil-fired heating system was replaced by an air-to-water heat pump in an older single-family detached home in Swabia. The house was built in the 1950s; minor renovations were done in the 1980s. The old radiators can nevertheless still be used, and no underfloor heating needs to be installed. Hydraulic balancing optimizes the entire system.

The Hanseatic city of Lemgo wants to supply almost all its citizens, including the residents of the historic old town, with climate-neutral heat via a district heating network well before the year 2045. The Energy Transition Report describes how Stadtwerke Lemgo is intelligently using environmental heat via heat pumps and other components to realize the heat transition successfully – without any natural gas.
